Sanskrit sūtra precept, literally, thread; akin to latin suere to sew. The origin of the word sutra is thread. A thread that runs through centuries, hands weaving, sewing, lives stitched together, passed down from family through generations, textiles that outlast our own lives, made from plants and animal hair, growing toward the sunlight, and living alongside us as tactile comfort, threads of sunlight streaming through curtains, falling onto a favorite chair, passing the thread through to another generation.
Atelier Sutra's workroom is located in Dogpatch, a former industrial garment manufacturing district near San Francisco’s Design Center in Potrero Hill. We continue the thread of textile arts in the neighborhood bringing full circle design, construction, installation, and textile care to your clients.
